This was a fun, juxtaposition floral and event design loosely based on Beauty And The Beast! Oh, and we pulled it off with 90% American Grown flowers!! There may be a severe lack of flowers on the farm this time of year, but the evergreen shrubs, trees and succulents grow just fine in the cold, dark days of winter! None have been safe from my holiday projects this month! 😉✂️🎄Even better, three adorable little elves came bearing gifts yesterday and one of them was a TON of new succulents!! What a year it’s been!
The leaves are just about the only thing left glowing on the farm in late November! It’s shocking to suddenly look up and see what appears to be a barren field, in the very same place that was full of color just a short time ago!
However, if we could only see what was going on beneath the soil, we would notice just how full of life our farm remains!
Spring is coming and, until she does, we will continue to plant, with the hope and faith necessary, to carry us through the long winter! ~Yes, I’m aware that zone 9B winters aren’t “technically” long! … But… you get the point! 🥰

2024 has been an exhausting season! So exhausting that coming up with anything profound to post about has been completely out of the question lately! However, always looking at the positive, I now have THOUSANDS of photos and videos ready to share all winter long!?🙈
Updates: Community Appreciation is still happening, it just hasn’t made it onto social media either… unless it popped up in a story here or there. The truth is, we have always done more community work behind the scenes anyway… maybe more on that this winter too! 😅 We are a few weeks out from planting the farm for Spring 2025! I can hardly believe it’s that time of year again! We have a handful of fall weddings coming up and subscriptions running through Halloween! Thanksgiving centerpieces are still TBD. If you are wanting to order for Thanksgiving again this year, send us a message to help me determine the amount of interest. Pretty Please! 😃
Other than that, the only other update I can think of is that Penelope had more kittens! The vole population has never been so low! Now, we just need to figure out the gophers!🤪

If you know me well, you are aware that I am FIERCELY independent! Even so, out of an abundance of respect for my peers, I ditched my beloved packaging many years ago! 💔

Only problem is… I still LOVE fluffy packaging! For me, the presentation is the glitter, the sprinkles on top, the EXTRA itty bitty detail that conveys a boundless commitment to giving one’s best! 💕 Adding extra glitter to everyday life, as quietly as possible 🤫, is truly who I am! ✨

To that end, I have been searching for some middle ground lately. I want flowers that are sent out for special occasions, or allocated as gifts, to have a little fluff wrapped around them! 💯 I want to continue with the natural wraps for the mass of subscriptions and I want to rely on a simple bucket of water for designer sales! This is my plan and I am happy with this plan! 😃

Things I hardly knew about/payed ZERO attention to before I became a cut flower grower…

Today at 8:06pm, a bit earlier than normal, the sun was directly over the equator and it’s energy became balanced between the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. 🌎

The earth actually takes 365 days, 5 hours, 48 min and 46 seconds to fully orbit the sun. So…To keep our calendars (and seasons) in sync, every four years, we add an extra day to February to account for all of those lost hours…Leap Year!

In a leap year, the first day of spring comes a day or so earlier than normal…which is TODAY! 😃🌷

In short…Happy First Day of Spring…Get ready for some beautiful spring flowers! And…yes…you can totally make fun of me for spending a good portion of my life thinking that a leap year was some random holiday! 🙈🤷‍♀️😂

I was out shopping today and came across these spray painted bouquets. 😱 The worst part was… some of the spray paint was chipping and oozing! 😳

Let me be clear… I am NOT the natural flower police and I will NEVER judge someone for their non local bouquet! Truth be told, I bought some Canadian grown flowers for myself just the other day because I fell in love and had to have them! 😍

80 degree days, as far as the eye can see, and fleeting daylight…we must be making our way towards fall! 🍂

Fall is a funny time around here! We have been aching for the cooler days and, also, some sense of rest after a long, hot season.

While nobody is going to complain about the cooler days, it will be quite a while before we get to slow down!

The warm season flowers are going to continue to produce until the lack of daylight hours, or the morning dew, finally takes them out. But that isn’t what will keep us too busy to rest!

Fall is the time where we have to do the most land work. Flipping beds, testing and amending soils, covering, planting, all the heavy lifting that is rarely considered when someone looks at a bouquet of flowers.

My goal is to have our whole spring planted and tucked in before Thanksgiving!

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have Thanksgiving and Christmas break to work on all the things we don’t have time for in the growing season? Marketing, catching up on bookkeeping, renewing licenses, 2024 sales strategy, summer crop plans, all the business/behind the scenes stuff! 🤞😉

In our zone 9b we start seeding the flowers that will bloom in spring 2024 now! We will grow these little seedlings through the cool of winter and they will come into bloom, nice and strong, in the spring. 🌱🌸

The driving force behind Sanctuary Blooms has always been about cultivating community through education and outreach. One of the more visible ways in which we join forces with our neighbors is through our Community Appreciation Friday’s!

This season, we are expanding our Community giving and we are inviting anyone who would like to be a part of our community mission to join us! We have released a collection of “Cultivating Community” T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags and 100% (YES... One Hundred Percent) of the proceeds from these items will go towards sharing joy, knowledge, giving and hope with our local community.
